In the evening walking away from Lake Park a neighborhood block part was stumbled upon. A handful of families gathered on Hackett Street, connecting Locust and Newberry. The recording was taken from a sidewalk nearby, microphones held at arms length, above the head. Several of the children were curious about what I was doing, asking, "Are you looking for UFOs?"

A Lake Park Playground

As twilight settled on my trek, lights kicked on, illuminating parts of the paths and playgrounds. The heat of the day had gone, bringing families to the park, leaving a pleasant evening in its place. The microphones are held in one hand in front of me, walking through the park toward Lake Dr.

Along a Footpath

This footpath is near the intersection of Locust and Lake Drive in Lake Park. Families were packing up their picnics and dogs, ready to head home as I was walking toward the lake, microphones on headset.

On Licoln Memorial Drive

Standing next to Lincoln Memorial Drive Lake Michigan spreads out to the horizon, dwarfing the highway, only a hundred yards away, but makes no sound. The microphones are held at shoulder-width, near my body facing the lake.

Western Shore of Lake Michigan

The left microphone is dangling just above the water level, the Right is held on an extended arm, upward. Nearby, two young couples talk and share affection, Lincoln Memorial Drive is silent and dogs are barking but the Lake creates a sonic intimacy with each listener on its rocky shore.
